NYPD corruption… better than fiction

Link to This American Life “Right to Remain Silent”

A couple of amazing stories on This American Life, one about a smart-alecky guy who posted a Fight Club-inspired rant against an Apple Store, another about a cop who recorded all sorts of goings-on inside the NYPD — regarding quotas and a “making stuff up” type of arrest policy. Both are scary in that they’re good reminders of thinking through consequences. Both are also pretty intense confirmation of how our world is changed in the post-911 era. Interesting that both stories take place in the New York City area, though I’m sure (in the case of the second piece) police corruption is hardly just an east coast problem. Worth a listen, it’s the real The Wire.
